Résumé | Readers are invited to a scandalous and climactic encounter with nocturnal Eros in the collection of Votive Sonnets written by Spanish-Mexican poet Tomas Segovia (Valencia, 1927 - Mexico, 2011). This corpus of approximately fifty poems encloses within the strict sonnet form an openly crude eroticism and indecent hints. Each piece acts as a votive offering, revealing the intimate moments unveiled by the poetic gesture. We intend here to lay a few first analytical foundations, discussing the devices at work in Segovia's ex-votos which account for all the moving and unstable features of nocturnal Eros. << Thin-skinned lovers >> flourish in their ever-growing sensoriality, their nights of love-making disclose their erotic hues, and their constant care for their female counterparts gives evidence of their desire for a coincidental (co-)climax. |
