Résumé

A lot of parts are subjected to rolling contact fatigue such as railway rails, gears, backup rolls, ball bearings and generally speaking every mechanical parts submitted to cyclic stresses. To estimate the life duration of these parts and substitute them before they are damaged (spalling), researchers have developed models for many years. For most of them, the approach is global, considering materials as a homogeneous medium and taken into account for cracks either propagation or initiation, rarely both. With a mesoscopic model such as the presented one, it is possible to modelize the material when taken into account its microstructure, hardness, residual stresses or heterogeneities such as inclusions.
