Panorama of the evolution of housing conditions in France since the end of the 1960s

Since the 1960s, the housing stock in metropolitan France have sharply increased and housing conditions have changed significantly. Based on the population census and housing surveys, this article describes changes and contrasts in housing characteristics taking into account their territorial variation. While some inequalities in housing conditions are gradually being reduced over the decades (especially sanitary conditions), others reflect persistent contrasts (type, occupancy status, heating type, number of pieces).
