Résumé

The different types of osteoporosis and available treatment strategies. Osteoporosis is a diffuse disease of the skeleton, characterised by a reduction of bone resistance. Low bone density and the deterioration of the bone micro-architecture lead to an increased risk of fractures. Primitive osteoporosis is more common in women and is linked to age and the menopause. Secondary, iatrogenic, toxic, metabolic or endocrine-related types of osteoporosis are more frequent in men. Treatment is only justified when there is a higher risk of fracture, defined by bone densitometry and/or other risk factors of fractures. (C) 2015 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved
