Résumé

Maurice Halbwachs was a regular reader of Max Weber. He helped his work to be known by the French public by publishing many reviews of Weber's texts. However, his reception went beyond this simple presentation. He also thoroughly discussed Weber's thoughts on the emergence and evolution of capitalism, which intersected with some of his main topics. Therefore, the way Halbwachs understood and used Weber's work highlights some of his concerns, related to the debates that he was reflecting on in the 1920s and 1930s: collective memory of social classes; the motivations these classes shared; the values and collective representations associated with these motivations; and, above all, the transition from ancient to modern societies.
