Résumé

The Mehdiabad Zn-Pb-Ba (Cu) world-class deposit is situated in the Yazd block, Central Iran. The host-rock of the deposit consists of silty limestone and dolomite in a Lower Cretaceous sedimentary series. Mineralization occurs as stratabound blanket-like, tabular orebodies and breccias. The orebody consists of both primary sulphide and supergene non-sulphide ore. The deposit comprises a main sulphide/non-sulphide combined orebody (the Valley Orebody, VOB), and an exclusively non-sulphide orebody (the Mountain Orebody, MOB). The non-sulphide ore of the MOB occurs as the matrix of both tectonic and karst-related breccias. Ore minerals comprise hemimorphite, hydrozincite, smithsonite and goethite. The VOB is located in a valley and is covered by alluvial overburden. In the VOB, the most abundant sulphides are galena, sphalerite, pyrite and chalcopyrite that coexist with baryte. In the Mehdiabad deposit, mineralization was coeval with the formation of the Lower Cretaceous host rocks.
