The materials of writing and decoration in Islamic manuscripts from the Maghrib

Research on the production of the medieval book by an analysis of the materials of writing and decoration is conducted in situ and in a non-destructive way. The most recent codicological enquiries concern the manuscripts kept in the `Centre d'etude de la civilisation et des arts islamiques' of Raqqada in Kairouan. They concern a reconstructed collection of Qur. an manuscripts that were written between the 9th and the beginning of the 11th centuries. The analysis of the results thus obtained is conducted in a comparative way and has as goal the grouping together of manuscripts in connection with work that has been done previously on two other groupes of manuscripts.
